Last April, students of the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management Sant Ignasi (URL) travelled to Dubrovnik to get to know the situation of tourism and hotel development in the Croatian capital. During the trip, students visited hotels and tourism-related businesses, and discovered how tourism in the city has changed since the series “Game of Thrones” was filmed there.
Their first visit was to the Hotel Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik, where 1st– and 2nd-year students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management got a chance to attend two presentations in English: “The Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik Hotel Business Mix and the Reservation Systems” and “Hotel Satisfaction and Loyalty Tracking System”.
The Dubrovnik Tourist Board presented their city as a tourist destination to HTSI students, with a special focus on the old town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. In addition, students enjoyed a “Game of Thrones” tour with a guide who played an extra on the television series, which was recorded in part on the walls of the Croatian capital.
Students also got a guided tour of the centre and the outskirts of the city of Ston. They then travelled by boat to the island of Korkula, where they visited the Cathedral of Saint Mark, saw the birthplace of Marco Polo and got to know Relais Chateaux Lešić Dimitri Palace. They completed their trip with a ride on the Dubrovnik CableCar and a panoramic tour of nearby vineyards.
During the 2018-2019 academic year, HTSI student have gone on Study Tours to Morocco, Senegal, Colombia, Dubai and Dubrovnik. These trips promote students’ international experience, interculturality and foreign language skills, among other advantages.
