A total of 3.667 hours of study have been achieved by the 375 students of the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management Sant Ignasi – HTSI and ESADE, of Ramon Llull University, at the 16th Solidarity Study Olympics. The campaign, organised by the NGOD Coopera, was held from November 5 to December 5 with the slogan “I can help from where I am”.
For the first time, HTSI and ESADE joined together to participate in this solidarity initiative. This way, for each hour of study registered by the students the organisation will invest 1 euro to expand Arc de Sant Martí Children’s School in Senegal. Therefore, finally 3.667 euros will be raised to improve the Senegalese school’s facilities.
It has to be underlined that for 2018 the NGOD Coopera had the aim to reach 50.000 participants and achieve 45.000 hours of study in order to raise awareness about the importance of education and training for the development of a person, and promote quality and inclusive learning opportunities aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The 16th Solidarity Olympics, an opportunity to bring together study and solidarity
Finally, 400 study rooms – 228 of them in the Spanish State – have taken part in the 16th edition to join study and solidarity in the educational centres. For HTSI has been the 7th year of cooperation in a row. Moreover, HTSI’s Social Commission, ESADE and Ramon Llull University co-organized 5 raffles among the 375 participant students, thanks to the books donated by RBA Group and the Borrow and Special Services Central Unit of Library Services of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
That way, and through the university level, students are given the opportunity to exercise values such as sustainability, social responsibility, solidarity, kindness and hospitality inherent to the tourism sector.
